General Hints and Tips for looking after your car



GENERAL CHECKS
Check the water, oil and coolant levels weekly to ensure smooth running of your car. Do this especially before long journeys

Check the tyre pressures regularly as soft tyres will wear quicker. 

BRAKES        
If you hear a lot of noise such as grinding when applying the brakes or when pushing on the brake pedal it feels spongy, you may need to replace your brake discs or pads.

OIL
If you are filling your car with oil frequently and consuming more than expected, there could be a leak in the oil tank. Consult a qualified mechanic.

TYRES
If you are experiencing less control on road surfaces, check the tyre threads as this is a common cause of loose grip on the road.

OVERHEATING
If you notice that your car is overheating frequently you should seek a qualified mechanic as problems with the cylinder-head gasket in the engine are the most common cause of this.

BATTERY CORROSION
If the car battery appears to be corroded do not attempt to repair or remove it yourself you should always seek a qualified mechanic for an examination.


USED THE WRONG FUEL?
If you have accidentally filled your car with the wrong type of fuel DO NOT START THE CAR as the fuel will travel through the engine which could damage various parts. Seek the help of a mechanic as soon as possible.
